Botanical Printed Tote Bag (Flowering Pounding/Tataki Zome)
Learn how to capture the pigments and shapes of nature on fabric utilizing the beautiful tradition of Tataki Zome (aka Flower Pounding) which is done with fresh botanicals and no heat. We’ll venture into the beautiful organic flower field at Windmill Ranch and cut fresh botanicals for our creations.
The workshop will include:
history of the technique and demonstrations
how to prepare fabric for long lasting prints
how to capture clear botanical prints
samples to be inspired by
guided hands-on practice & exploration
individualized instruction and time for everyone to create their beautiful and unique flower-printed textile
Participants will take home their garden-printed tote and a printed worksheet with detailed information on fabric preparation & care, considerations on which types of fabrics & garments are most suitable for this technique, a suggested plant list, plus characteristics to look for when exploring new plants, supply list & reliable suppliers, and step by step instructions for the techniques covered in class.
Workshop fee includes all fresh botanicals & materials to create a flower-printed tote bag. Participants are welcome to bring fresh flowers they’d like to experiment with from their garden/home, but it is not necessary.
Included is a tour the Honeybee Home cut flower garden with farmer Katy. Pick a fresh mason jar bouquet to take home.
